New Comic Book Day 1-15-2014

We’ve got a full order of some pretty disconnected yet fun stuff this week. Take a look and see if there’s anything the resonates with you!

One of the most anticipated books of the year comes out this week, and it’s not even a new story. After 20 years of legal mumbo jumbo, personality conflicts, and copyright battles, we are finally going to get a chance to read Alan Moore’s classic tale MiracleMan.

Don’t know the story of MiracleMan?
From my point of view all you need to know is this. Alan Moore, writer of the Watchman, has a hidden classic out there called MiracleMan that hasn’t seen the light of day in two decades. It’s become a cult following and honestly and not sure if that’s from quality of work or from lack of accessibility. Most likely a little of both. (Moore’s so pissed that the author credit on this book is ‘The original writer’. I’m not even kidding.) Marvel finally has the rights to start reprinting the book. Back in the day MiracleMan was taken over by Sandman’s Neil Gaiman and the story was never finished. At the end of these recolored reprints they are going to have Gaiman finish the story. (So I guess he’s not pissed) Lost gem or over rated classic? You be the judge! This is one of things that make comic culture so much fun. If you really want the whole story I find this website to be a pretty good version of the history:
http://www.worldsgreatestcritic.com/miraclemansaga.htmlNext up we’ve got a new four issue Deadpool comic coming out, Night Of The Living Deadpool #1

Night_of_The_Living_Deadpool_1
Deadpool wakes up after falling asleep from a food coma to realize the Apocalypse has happened! Presented in glorious black and white (and red!) by writer Cullen Bunn.
Also in the world of Deadpool, stop by the shop this week and we’ll give you a FREE copy of the first issue of DEADPOOL GAUNTLET #1! Only the first issue will be in print, the other twelve issues will all be digital! (So in other words, Marvel’s found a way to scam me into helping out there digital only comics) Seriously, stop by and pick one up while supplies last starting at noon on Wednesday. Thanks Marvel. *sigh*At the other end of the spectrum we’ve got a lot of cool new action figures this week, like DC Direct Super Villain Harley Quinn Action Figure.

It’s hard to keep up with Toys R Us and Target in the world of Action Figures, but DC Direct figures are Comic Shop Only! There will also be a new Deathstroke Figure along with a New Captain Boomerang Figure, all part of DC Direct’s Super Villain line. We consider DC Direct Figures to be ‘Evergreen’ products in our shop, meaning we always keep them in stock. What that mean for you is that if you’re ever shopping around and can’t find a good solid Batman, Green Lantern or Flash figure, you should check in with us.
We’ll also have new Marvel Legends figures in for both Captain America 2 The Winter Soldier and Amazing Spider-Man 2! It’s worth repeating that all this stuff hits the table at noon on Wednesday!

In the World of ALL NEW MARVEL NOW we’ve got THUNDERBOLTS #20 featuring the return of the original Ghost Rider from the 70’s, Johnny Blaze!

Thunderbolts_20

This jumping on point is part one of the ‘NO MERCY” story-line and is written by breakout writer Charles Soule!

In the world of indie comics we’ve got something pretty cool starting this week, X-FILES CONSPIRACY #1!

X-Files_Conspiracy_1

Look at this image closely. This is one of those “only in comic books” moments. Told in a series of one shots and this two issue mini series, the Lone Gunmen from the X-files show will be investigating several urban legends. Urban legends like a group of ghost-hunters, mutant turtles that live in the sewers, shape-changing alien robots, and a vengeful spirit from beyond the grave! So excited about this project and it all starts this Wednesday!

Lastly, I thought I’d throw this book in, mostly because I like the cover and the writer, Inhumanity Spider-Man #1 One Shot!

Inhumaity_Spider-Man_1

Told by Mike Costa, who wrote the very popular “The Arms Of The Octopus” story-line last year (which is available as a graphic novel now), this one shot helps Inhumanity trudge along a little farther. I really just have a soft spot for the cover I guess. Firefighting thing.

There’s lots more of course, but we’re just doing our part to help you stay in the know about the weekly comics scene! Know someone into comics that isn’t on our email list? Tell them to drop us a line at info@cnjcomics.com and we’ll add them! You can also follow our very popular Facebook page for even more images and posting about whats coming out each week! That’s it everyone! We’ll see you this week at the comic book shop!
