Deadpool gets married and other new comic releases at CNJComics 4-9-2014

This week’s featured new releases really picked themselves. This is the week I’ve been most excited about so far this year. The common thread seems do be really amazing creators and just a lot of truly fun stuff!

Here’s the featured new comic book releases coming out this Wednesday, April 9th!

First up is a big one, Deadpool gets married in a (HUGE) $9.99 issue!

Deadpool_27

Marvel is rounding up EVERY writer to ever pen Deadpool to contribute stories to this momentous occasion! Marvel’s billing it as the most important #27 ever! (Take that Detective Comics!)

Really, this book alone is reason to stop by the shop this week. Look around online to see just how many creators are on this thing. And who’s the lucky lady anyway?

The next most important thing this week is the beginning of Batman’s new weekly series with Batman Eternal #1!

Batman_Eternal_1

A massive project to celebrate Batman’s 75th Anniversary, Batman Eternal will have Scott Snyder as the “showrunner” for a slew of Batman writers and artists throughout an entire year. Exploring Batman’s relationship with the city and his ‘family’, Snyder hopes to craft a story that could only be told in weekly format. And only $2.99 too!

After prepping you with Daredevil Appreciation Week, we’ve got a issue to help all that reading pay off with Daredevil #1.5!

Daredevil_1_5

Almost like a sister book to this week’s Deadpool, Daredevil #1.5 is a stand alone story set in the future at Matt Murdock’s 50th birthday! This extra sized issue will also have stories written and drawn by classic Daredevil creators! It’s really cool that this book is sharing the same week as Deadpool #27. I think everyone knows how excited I get over the possibility of a good Daredevil story.

Next up, (and I can hardly wait), Iron Fist The Living Weapon #1!

Iron_Fist_1

Written and drawn by Kaare Andrews (known for some stunning Hulk covers and Spider-Man:Reign) I couldn’t think of a better person to give us a new Iron Fist story. If you’ve never read Iron Fist before check out the Matt Fraction David Aja Graphic Novel. It’s a precursor to their work on Hawkeye.

I believe in this title so much that I’ve even figured out a way to get the Skottie Young and Animal Variants for this book to you at cover price! Check out the stunning Animal Variant here:

Please note that these variants will not be in the shop until later in the week, as I had to go out of state to get them! Enjoy!

The beginning of Marvel New Ultimate line has a cool side story to it, with All New Ultmates #1!

All_New_Ultimates_1

It’s not just the street line up of Spider-Man, Black Widow, Kitty Pryde, Bombshell and Cloak and Dagger that’s interesting, but that the writing chores went to super indie writer Michel Fiffe. Up till now Mike Fiffe has written a self published comic book called COPRA, which was an unlicensed homage to 1980’s Suicide Squad issues by John Ostrander. (Great stuff btw.) Fiffe wrote, drew and published his book himself and kept to a strict one year monthly schedule. (!) Marvel must have noticed his discipline and work ethic and offered him the job as writer of All New Ultimates. Pretty cool.

There’s another cool indie story out there this week with LumberJanes #1 from BOOM Studios!

LumberJanes_1

Five best friends spending the summer at Lumberjane scout camp…defeating yetis, three-eyed wolves, and giant falcons…what’s not to love?!

Noelle Stevenson is co-creator and co-writer on this series has a massive following online from her webcomic Nimona. Just for context, within twenty-four hours of announcing this project, her Tumblr post had been shared over 20,000 times. When she posted her experience visiting a comic shop and being treated poorly, it was shared almost 80,000 times and covered by virtually every comic book press site. This is the type of following that makes us take note and support her print endeavors!

Truly a week of celebrating comic book character history both past and in the making, along with some examples of Indie creators that worked hard to make a name for themselves and are enjoying a little bit of print popularity! Again, my favorite week of the year so far!

That will be it for this week! We’ll see you soon at the comic book shop!

And remember…. It’s never too early to start thinking about www.freecomicbookday.com!
