Captain America for President & the Cleveland RNC

The Republican National Convention is almost here! Let’s all enjoy learning and listening to other’s points of view, while we show the world what we’ve always know about our city, that It’s the best. (And a plum, and you’ve got to be tough, etc.)

Here at the shop we’ve put together a unifying and bipartisan agenda to that effect, raising funds for a worthy cause and engaging in that greatest of social commentary, parody.

RNC-Poster_FINAL2bWe’ve created a 11×17 Lithograph to help you celebrate the impending “Mad Bomb” that may be heading towards Cleveland. This print is FREE with any purchase. Imagine the conversation and respect from your peers as you hang this piece of semi accurate propaganda up in your home or place of work. Much respect to Kirby and Romita, they were well ahead of their time.

CAPTAIN AMERICA FOR PRESIDENT IN 2016

In 1980, Captain America considered running for President on an independent ticket in the now classic issue by Roger Stern and John Byrne.

Captain America #250Captain America bowed out upon realizing his connection was more to the American Dream than to the compromise and negotiation it takes to makes that dream a reality. He left us with these words, “You need but to look within yourselves to find the people you need to keep this nation strong… and God willing, to help make the dream come true.”

We’re paying tribute to the past while keeping our head in the present by presenting a commemorative coin for this year’s RNC; a homage to the cover and concept behind Captain America #250.

CoinsThis coin will go for $20, with ALL money collected going to the New Avenues to Independence‘s yearly Holiday Ball in December. “New Avenues to Independence, Inc. is an organization that proudly provides services, programs and opportunities for the over 750 people with disabilities in Northeast Ohio to become more independent and productive members of the community.”  They have been serving the Greater Cleveland Community for over 60 years, with the holiday ball going on for thirty years. This event is supported and attended by the amazing Superheroes to Kids In Ohio, which is how we originally got word about it. Your money will not only provide individuals with tickets to this event, they will also receive transportation, an outfit for the occasion, a trip to the salon and assistance by a staff member throughout.

We believe people with disabilities who are making efforts to be more independent and productive deserve an awesome party. With Superheroes.

To be clear, we are donating ALL money received for these coins, meaning we will be eating the cost of production as our donation to the cause.

We’ve also purchased some hand picked Captain America graphic novels that we’ll be selling at only $5 each. These books all feature stories that are very rooted in the time in which they happened , and are great reminders of the challenges both Cap and our country have been though.

Captain America New DealCaptain America: The New Deal – The first post 9-11 comic book story and we see Captain America struggling to make sense of Ground Zero. Captain ideal never burns brighter than in this story illustrated by John Cassaday.

Captain America: Man Out of Time – Mark Waid retells Cap’s origin. Includes a full reprint of Cap’s classic first Silver Age appearance in Avengers #4.

Essential Captain America Volume 3 – Reprints stories from 1970 to 1972 in black and white. College Riots, an Altamont like biker gang encounter and Steve’s short lived career as a New York Police Officer. Includes a great run of stories by drawn by John Romita.

Essential Captain America Volume 4 – Reprints of the legendary run by Howard the Duck’s Steve Gerber, as Steve Rogers abandons his post as Cap after finding out the villainous Secret Empire is run by current President, Richard M. Nixon. Steve wanders as a “Nomad”, disillusioned by the state of his country after Watergate.

Both essential volumes deal heavily with the relationship between Captain America and the Falcon, and their friendship is defined here.

Finally, let’s remember one thing during this important week in Cleveland history.

ComplainThanks to Jameson Campbell for helping to make this all a possibility through his design work.

We’re hoping you’ll help us to send a lot of people to this party and let the world know what our community is really about.
