Featured New Releases for 8-14-2019

This has been a great end to the summer, with both Absolute Carnage and Jonathan Hickman’s X-Titles both being huge winners both in content and sales.

Carnage!!

We sold out of Absolute Carnage last week, and we ordered A LOT. The book is also sold out nationally but I have 50 more first prints coming in at cover price this week!

This was a $7.99 book and was worth every penny. It’s a classic Spider-Man – Venom – Carnage story that reads like a modernized 90’s story. Donny Cates man. Whew.

We can’t vouch for how any of the crossovers will be but we highly recommend having any that you are interested in held as demand will be high and orders were low, so many titles may not even hit the table as they are already sold out at the distributor level.

So, here’s the checklist again to print out, fill in and turn into the shop.

This week is Absolute Carnage Scream #1 and the Absolute Carnage Separation Anxiety One Shot, and we only have a few of each hitting the table after pre-orders.

As with all things though, we prefer you enjoy the ride you take, so we encourage people to stick to the main four-issue story if that’s all you find interesting. It’s still a good idea to put in an order for that as well.

X-Men Titles

The second issue of House of X last week may have been my favorite book of the year. It really laid out the structure of Hickman’s storyline, and it’s really fun to try and decode. Powers of X #2 is out this week and it’s also going to be a tough book to get. We’ve got our orders under control after issues #4 of both books though, as we’re over ordering now that we understand the quality of the story.

We will also have more of the Krakoa Seed packets in, and you will get one free with any House of Powers of X purchase. We will be having a contest for a $100 gift certificate for who ever grows the best plant, to culminate in shop after the final issue is out (Powers of X #6) on October  9th. The contest will be judged by my wife Apryl, who’s entire life is plants and cats. Decorate that pot for added effect!

We also found a comic shop that decoded Hickman’s code! Here’s what we know so far. Thanks to Shannon Mudge from DragonVine!

Event Leviathan

DC has a good thing going with Event Leviathan, and issue #3 comes out this week. We’re still not sure how the whole “Year of the Villains” thing will come together, but for now, this is a great series by Bendis and Maleev that feels like you’re watching a big event from the sidelines and back alleys. These two have worked together successfully several times over the years and it shows.

“Small” Press

BOOM put a lot of effort into promoting “Once and Future” by Kieron Gillen, to the point where they’re trying to redefine a publishers commitment to the future of the industry.

“When a group of Nationalists use an ancient artifact to bring a villain from Arthurian myth back from the dead to gain power, ex-monster hunter Bridgette McGuire escapes her retirement home and pulls her unsuspecting grandson Duncan, a museum curator, into a world of magic and mysticism to defeat a legendary threat.”

Here’s my buddy Flip’s speech about the book from ComicsPro this year. Give it a read and see what they’re doing.

Lastly, this is the first time in CNJComics history that we’ll have the new volume of Dogman on the day of its release!

Dav Pilkey is a treasure, from Captain Underpants to Dogman and beyond. He’s dyslexic and now creates the best selling graphic novels on the market to help young readers. (NO JOKE! Dogman’s sales blow away any graphic novel in the comic book market year after year.)

He’s even originally from Ohio too.

That’s it! Grow those plants!
