Halloween ComicFest is returning to CNJComics for it’s 4th year on Saturday, October 31st from 10am to 7pm.
Halloween Comic Fest is where kids, family and cosplayers get to enjoy free comics, candy and complimentary professional photography services.
Halloween Comic Fest is an international event celebrated at a local level. It’s like a smaller Free Comic Book Day, with free comic books created especially for the day for trick-or-treaters. This year there will be 21 different books, 17 for all ages and 4 for teen plus+. Anyone in costume will be able to take one of each of the books that are age appropriate. (Don’t worry mom and dad, teen plus selections are kept up and away from the rest.) People not in costume are as welcome to stop by, but we’ll be limiting their selection to three books only.
Here’s some highlights from the all ages selections:
Ultimate Spider-Man and the Avengers #1:
When Peter Parker has a terrible day, he discovers that none other than Nightmare is behind it! But how can the Ultimate Spider-Man defeat a foe that’s inside his own head? Guest-starring Doctor Strange! Then the Avengers take on their spookiest mission yet when they travel to Castle Doom to face Dracula! And if that’s not enough, Dracula’s brought a horde of bloodthirsty vampires with him!
Harley Quinn #1 Special Edition:
Harley is set to begin her new life, but she needs a job first. Enter the Coney Island Roller Derby! It’s game time as Harley sets out to destroy her competition – literally. This free issue is the perfect place to start reading the adventures of Harley Quinn – the Joker’s on-again, off-again psychotic girlfriend, the Clown Princess of Crime!
Doctor Strange Oath #1:
Doctor Strange embarks on the most important investigation of his career, as he sets out to solve an attempted murder – his own! And with his best friend near death, Stephen Strange turns to an unexpected corner of the Marvel Universe to recruit a new ally! Written by Saga and Y the Last Man author Brian Vaughan!
Batman Adventures #1 Special Edition:
The Joker and the Penguin make a deal: in return for the theft of a small item, the Joker provides the Penguin with money to garner public acclaim as a millionaire philanthropist! How high can the Penguin fly before Batman catches on? Don’t miss your chance to read this free first issue of the comic book series that spins out of the critically-acclaimed and Emmy Award-winning Batman: The Animated Series and brings an animated approach to comics!
Donald Duck Halloween Screams #1:
Classic Disney haunts are home for the howl-iday! In “It’s In the Bag” and “Public Ugly #1,” trick-or-treating Donald scares up a literal ton of candy… then is forced to get rid of it by fair means or foul!
Other all ages selections include:

On the eve of her sixteenth birthday, the young sorceress finds herself at a crossroads, having to choose between an unearthly destiny and her mortal boyfriend, Harvey. But a foe from her family’s past has arrived in Greendale, Madame Satan, and she has her own deadly agenda. Relive all the horror with this special black and white presentation of the critically-acclaimed first issue.
Other Teen Plus comics inlcude:
- Grimm Tales of Terror
- Fragments of Horror
- and Vampblade.
We’ve got 1,000’s of books to give away, but as always come early for the best selection. (we will even have a few extra titles not mentioned above early in the day)
This year we will have photographer Heather Campbell back from 10am to 4pm taking studio pictures of everyone in costume in front of our logo backdrop. Heather is a Cleveland based professional photographer specializing in portrait, food and product photography.
Heather’s work has been featured in magazines such as LiveWell, Cleveland Magazine, and Inside Business. She will be taking pictures in the foyer which you will be able to take off of our web-site and Facebook Page within two days, so everyone will get to see them and you can steal your image off the page.
This is a great opportunity to get a professional picture of your cosplay costume, family photo as well as getting some free comic books and candy!
Here’s a gallery of some of Heather’s pictures from last year!
There is a national costume contest going on. To enter, you need to go here and upload your picture by November 10th. Voting is from Nov 3rd to Nov 10th, so submit early. Winners will be announced on November 13th. If you want to enter be sure to ask Heather to take an additional picture of you holding one of the Halloween Comic Fest Comic Books. She will not do this unless asked!
This is our fourth year doing this event, and we actually won a national award from Diamond Comics for best Halloween Comic Fest Event last year, mostly due to the fun of everyone coming in and helping us create a really amazing photo gallery.
As we said, we’ll have comics, candy and the photographer, all you’ve got to do is drag out your costume a few hours earlier and stop up to the shop! Be sure to bring your own camera, as sometimes some pretty cool costumes pairing spontaneously happen and need to be documented outside the photo area!
For more information on the comics and the event at a national level check here.
Please use this image on your social media to help spread the word and show people where you’ll be!
Thanks again and we’ll see you at the comic shop on October 31st!
