Marvel AXIS and new comic releases for the week of 10-8-2014
If last week was an 80 yard rush, this week is a 9 yard push to the 1 yard line. (or whatever. I’m a nerd.) Anyway, we’re keeping last week’s energy and moving forward with it!
Here’s the spectacular new releases for the week of Wednesday, October 8th!
Avengers and X-Men AXIS #1 is here! This is easily the year’s biggest Marvel event.
Rick Remender has been writing some of the best Avengers work I’ve ever read over in the pages of Uncanny Avengers. (And that’s coming from a very classic Marvel background) Seeds were sown there that have lead up to this nine issue series written by Rick himself and drawn by Adam Kubert, Leinil Yu, Terry Dodson and Jim Cheung. During this series Marvel heroes and villains will be flipped on their moral axis, and that doesn’t just mean heroes become villains and vice versa. It’s much more complex than that. Here’s a quick primer to get you ready.
We’ll be handing out free lithographs and free inversion loopers (?!) with the first 150 copies sold!
Let’s jump over to DC for a book that’s equally exciting on a completely different level, Batgirl #35.
Babs Tarr’s new look for Batgirl has gotten quite a bit of media play, and now it’s finally here. (It’s seems like Barbara’s moved to Gotham’s version of Tremont) When DC makes smart decisions like this we need to say we approve by throwing our money on the table. We did, and we’ve ordered extra copies to prove it.
Back to Marvel for Amazing Spider-Man #7 and more Edge of Spiderverse!
Spider-Verse officially begins in Amazing Spider-Man #9 on 11-5-2014, but till then we’ll keep meeting key players in the game, including this issue’s Spider-UK! (The ever popular Ms Marvel’s in there too)
Back to DC for their new weekly Earth 2 World’s End #1!
Tom Taylor’s run on Earth 2 has been a real treat each month and the way I believe Earth 2 stories should be. Popular enough that now New York Times bestselling author
Daniel H. Wilson will be doing a weekly. (Seriously, if you haven’t read Taylor’s run yet dive in with volume four of the Earth 2 hardcovers, also coming out this week.) Marvel just snatched him up to write the new Superior Iron Man, which will tie into Marvel AXIS!
And, back to DC again, for the Green Arrow Year One special edition!
Season Three of Arrow premiere’s this Wednesday. Here’s a trailer for it!
DC’s making this $1.00 preview issue of the Diggle / Jock origin story available at the 11th hour. Another great story that you can even just skip the preview on and go confidently to the full graphic novel.
And now back to Marvel for the first real issue of Hawkeye Vs Deadpool #1!
A Halloween story to get you in the mood for the season. The third volume of the Hawkeye graphic novels will be out this week too.
Everyone’s been waiting for Scott Snyder’s new comic book from Image, Wytches #1!
From Batman to The Wake, Snyder’s work is top notch. Illustrated by Jock (yup, the guy from Green Arrow Year One. See how easy this all is?) Across the globe, century after century, men and women were burned, drowned, hanged, tortured, imprisoned, persecuted, and murdered for witchcraft. None of them were witches. They died protecting a terrible and hidden truth: witches, real witches, are out there. They are ancient, elusive, and deadly creatures that are rarely seen and even more rarely survived.
Are you a fan of Afterlife With Archie? Well it’s time for Sabrina The Teenage Witch to get the same treatment in Sabrina #1.
Terror is born anew in this dark reimagining of Sabrina the Teenage Witch’s origin. On the eve of her sixteenth birthday, the young sorceress finds herself at a crossroads, having to choose between an unearthly destiny and her mortal boyfriend, Harvey. Not for kids or the faint of heart! Written by Roberto Aguirre Sacasa, who wrote Afterlife too!
Finally, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the new Fraggle Rock Journey Everspring #1.
This one is for kids, and for you for that matter. And me. From BOOM, who have been killing it with all their Jim Henson stuff.
Okay, one more image. Marvel has these really cool Deadpool cover bomb variants this month, and here he is dropping in on Groot’s first appearance in Rocket Raccoon #4.
That’s it! (If you don’t count a fill shipment of books to go with these amazing highlights) We’ll see you this week at the comic shop!
Just listen to Convincing John, and all your troubles will be gone! He’s going to tell it, spell it, sell it, just for you! (how’s that for an abstract Fraggle reference?)
