Black Panther, Harley Quinn, Poe Dameron and the Road to Civil War II
This is the week you’ve been waiting for! Huge new comic week with some truly impressive product across the board. Get ready to be excited for the featured new releases coming out this Wednesday, April 6th, 2016!
In a week with lots to pick from, we’re going to lead with Black Panther #1 by Ta-Nehisi Coates, national correspondent for The Atlantic writing about Culture, Politics and Social Issues.
Black Panther’s been a highlight of the Civil War trailers, and Marvel has put together a team to reinvigorate the character in print. Keeping track of Coates’ efforts as a first time comic writer along with his process with artist Brain Stelfreeze has been pretty educational. Here’s a recap in Coates own words.
Really worth the read.
This Wednesday is also the Star Wars Poe Dameron launch party. (which basically means we’ve got some free stuff to give you with your copy is issue #1.)
Poe and his X-Wing Squadron investigate sites of historical importance to the Force by Charles Soule (Death Of Wolverine, Lando) and Phil Noto (Black Widow, Chewbacca). Expect to see BB-8 and General Organa in Marvel first foray into the new trilogy.
The first one hundred copies sold will come with a FREE lithograph by Joe Quinones and a button featuring either Poe of BB-8.
Expect lots of variants for both Panther and Poe to hit the table at noon on Wednesday.
This week also marks the debut of the Road to Civil War II, the lead in too the conflict between Iron Man and Captain Marvel that will officially begin with Civil War II #1 coming out on FREE COMIC BOOK DAY on May 7th.
Invincible Iron Man #8 will contain some hints into the upcoming conflict. (which will supposedly be over the Inhumans place in the Marvel Universe) Bendis writes this book and will also be writing Civil War II.
The real gift this week is a FREE preview book to all the Road to Civil War II titles coming out in April.
We’ve got lots of these books coming in so you should be able to pick one up throughout the whole week without a problem.
Sure it’s a few conceptual days late, but the Harley Quinn Suicide Squad April Fool’s Day Special has art by Jim Lee and Scott Williams!
No joke! An entire Harley book with artwork by Jim Lee himself. This is one of those things that just kind of sneaks up on you if you didn’t know it was coming out.
The long awaited Wonder Wonder Earth One Hardcover hits this shelves this week.
Grant Morrison’s completely original take on Wonder Woman with art by Yanick Paquette. Encompassing the vision of her original creator, William Moulton Marston, Morrison presents a Diana who yearns to break free from her mother and the Utopian society on Paradise Island to learn about the forbidden outside world. Marston graduated from Harvard, was a Polygamist, invented the lie detector and was a militant feminist. (and loved bondage) If you’ve never read about him give it five minuts of your time.
Mark Millar has a new title coming out from Marvel’s adult Icon line this week, Empress #1 with art by Stuart Immonen.
Imagine you’re married to the worst bad guy from your favorite sci-fi movie. An alien dictator feared throughout the universe, who will kill you if you leave — but you need to escape for the sake of your three children. All you have are your wits, your bodyguard, and three guns. Welcome to EMPRESS, your new favorite comic.
Indie Fans! We haven’t forgotten you. Were still enjoying the new Aftershock Comics line, and this week they’ve got Rough Riders #1.
