Suicide Squad and Harley Quinn are here
After literally a year since the first trailer, Suicide Squad will be hitting the theaters this Friday, August 5th. DC has timed it’s new Rebirth releases to perfectly coincide with this much anticipated movie.
To get you started, here’s the new featurette that was shown at San Diego Comicon.

Ready now?! Let’s go!
DC has two new titles this week, Harley Quinn #1 and Suicide Squad Rebirth #1, both only $2.99 each.
Written by the husband and wife team of Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti (who will both be visiting the shop on September 22nd) with art by Chad Hardin. Harley sports a very movie look while she fights zombies in Coney Island.
Amanda Waller pulls Rick Flag out of prison to supervise the team. With an amazing variant cover by Amanda Conner! (Did we mention she’s going to be at the shop?)
Also this week is the Harley Quinn Book and Mask Set for $34.99.
Joining the previously released masks for V For Vendetta, Joker, Deathstroke and the Court of Owls. These masks are great for photo opps and you get a great graphic novel to boot!
New this week is the Suicide Squad’s Most Wanted Deadshot Graphic Novel.
We will be carrying a full line of all Suicide Squad Graphic Novels, so don’t be shy about stopping in and asking an employee to point you in the right direction. I personally love the old books by John Ostrander and Luke McDonald. There’s no Harley but the Wall, Rick, Deadshot and Captain Boomerang are in there. The books can feel a bit dated but rack right up there with Giffen and Dematties’ Justice League. (and came out at the same time actually.) Look for the Deadshot Beginnings graphic novel as well.
If you’re coming in with no previous knowledge we’ve got a comic for you, The Harley Quinn and the Suicide Squad Special Edition Comic will be free with any purchase.
Featuring art by Jim Lee (who will be taking over as artist on the monthly Suicide Squad comic after the Rebirth Issue). If you really are new ask at the desk and we’ll also give you free reprints of Harley Quinn #1 and New Suicide Squad #1; leftover books from previous events.
We’ll also be carrying the new Suicide Squad Pop Fun’s as well.
In case you didn’t know (from the multiple previous impressions) Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti will be at the shop for a signing on September 22nd from 8pm to 10pm in conjunction with Kent State and The Cleveland Library’s Wonder Women Symposium.
This looks to be a great opportunity to celebrate both Wonder Woman and women in pop culture and we’re going to make a pretty cool night out of it. Props go out to Valentino Zullo for being a big part in bringing this event together.
Hey! How about that Wonder Woman trailer?!
I’ve always said that we need more super hero (and heroine) period pieces.
Amanda and Jimmy have a cool graphic novel out from Aftershock Comics, SuperZero Volume One.
“Meet Dru Dragowski, a nineteen-year-old comic book fan who yearns to escape the normalcy of teenage life. Dreaming to become a real-life superhero for as long as she can remember, Dru recreates the origins of her favorite superheroes in the hope that she too, can become a hero herself.”
Lastly, thanks for kicking ass at the RNC Cleveland!
We usually shy away from politics, as we know it can be a sensitive subject and we never mean to offend anyone. But with the RNC in town we had to through our hat in the ring and do something for our community as a sign of good faith. We recently stopped by New Avenues to Independence and dropped off $6,000 in donation money, enough for 48 individuals to get full tickets to their Holiday Ball, which includes transport, supervision, a salon visit and a new outfit in addition to attendance to the event. Thank you for being a sub community that shined during a very different convention than the one that went on out west. If you donated to the cause, do not second guess that you were a part of making Cleveland great.
I will be gone for two weeks on family vacation, so next weeks email and social media posts will be brought to you by … Ben Joines Mundy. Stay tuned and keep an eye on the boys for me. (lots of parenthesis this week.)
Peace,
