Spider-Man, Superman and the Lost Boys
Spider-Man starts a new storyline, Marvel NOW continues, some cool new Indies from Image, a solid Superman hardcover and the Lost Boys, all this week at CNJComics.
Here’s the featured new releases coming out this Wednesday, October 12 2016!
Spider-Man’s sporting a new storyline this week that begins in Dead No More: The Clone Conspiracy #1 by Dan Slott and Jim Cheung.
Featuring the return of classic Spidey villains the Lizard, Rhino, Electro and Doc Ock, as well as what looks to be the return of Gwen Stacey. The Jackal has the key to eternal life, and he’s regenerating the people closest to these villains to gain their allegiance. Dan Slott wrote the popular Spider-Verse, while Cheung has done some solid work in Young Avengers.
Marvel also has a second week of Marvel NOW titles, including Mosaic #1, Solo #1, Uncanny Avengers #15 and for us Midwesterners, the Great Lakes Avengers #1.
After an incredible run on Batman, Greg Capullo slides over to Image Comics for a new series with Mark Millar. Reborn #1 hits the table this week!
“Where do you go when you die? Not heaven or hell; somewhere else. Somewhere you have to fight to survive. Somewhere the people from the past are waiting for you- both the good and the bad.”
Image also has new issues for two other series this week that have been garnering praise both in and out of the shop, Black Monday Murders #3 by Johnathon Hickman and Kill or Be Killed #3 by Brubacker and Phillips. Both series will have reprints of issues #1 and #2 coming out to allow you to catch up. Hickman’s cerebral Black Monday Murders takes a look at the illuminati controling the stock market, while Kill or Be Killed is a deconstruction of the vigilante myth, as we see someone’s life ruined by their ‘heroic’ decisions. Both worth following monthly.
The Superman American Alien Hardcover is worth the trip into the shop alone.
Written by Max Landis, this collection of stand alone stories features key developmental moments from Clark’s early history. Each story is drawn by a different artist giving it a slightly different tone. JOCK and Jae Lee top that list, with Max and JOCk having been nominated for a Eisner in the past for their work on a Superman/Joker story. (Check that out in the Adventures of Superman Volume Three Graphic Novel.) We’ll be recommending American Alien for years to come. A really realistic look at Superman while also maintaining a comic book feel.
Lastly this week, we return to 1987 and the world of the Lost Boys.
Set after the first movie and featuring Sam, Michael and most importantly, the Frog Brothers. Written by Hack Slash’s Tim Seeley!
On a side note, the legendary owner of Atlantis Fantasyworld, Joe Ferrara, is the person responsible for Marvel Prostate Cancer Awareness Variants this month. Joe is one of the people I highly look up to in the industry, and his shop was used in the filming of Lost Boys. Check out this article for his reasons for the covers.
Here’s a couple cool trailers out of New York Comicon to finish up:
Power Rangers, which looks pretty sweet.
Iron Fist which I’m not totally sold on. (Mostly because I have a lot personally invested in the character.)
Unrelated, but Great Wall looks pretty cool too.
Have a great week everyone!
