Artists Wanted For Holiday Art Show at CNJComics

Carol and John’s Comic Shop is looking for local artists who would like to contribute a sketch cover to our 5th Annual Holiday Art Show to benefit the Cleveland Food Bank.

ARTISTS WANTED

It’s easy! Are you a local artist who would like to turn your talents into food for those in need during the holiday season? Stop by the shop and pick up a free blank sketch cover. (or two.) Some are completely blank and some have just a logo to get you started.

This year’s theme is “The Holiday Season” which can mean Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, Wookie Life Day, whatever. Take that idea and incorporate a comic book element into it, either super hero’s or indie comic characters, again whatever. We’re pretty liberal with the theme.

Create a custom cover, sticking to the front of the book for display purposes.

Turn the book into the comic shop by Thursday, December 14th at 8pm.

Be sure to include you name, URL, and email contact on the submission form you will be given with the cover. You can also write this information inside the book.

Here are some great examples from previous shows:

Art by Craig Worrell

Art by Ryan Finley

Art by Dee Piotrowski

Art by Dave Wendt

Covers will be on display all day at the shop on Saturday, December 16th and can be won through a basket raffle system where one dollar or one food items gets you a ticket.

Winners are drawn that night during our Customer Appreciation Holiday Party, which includes free food, drink and some pretty amazing shopping opportunities.

The Cleveland Food Bank <http://www.greaterclevelandfoodbank.org/> has the incredible super power to turn one dollar into four full meals. With the help of you and our community, we have been able to provide meals for tens of thousands of people.

As said above, this is our 5th year doing this, and the results so far are:

2013     3,600 meals created     1,200 food items collected

2014     11,400 meals created     1,014 food items collected

2015     13,068 meals created     1,207 food items collected (the theme was Star Wars that year, and we nailed it with the help of the Star Wars Cosplay Community.)

2016     10,016 meals created     602 food items collected

The artist with the most tickets in his basket will also have a $100 donated to the food bank in his/her name.

All covers are put into an online gallery for all to see post event. We will attach your name and contact URL to this gallery to allow people to explore your artwork.

We feel like everyone want to do something to help others during the holidays, well this can be your one thing. Your art can become food, and what’s more it’s done in a way that brings people together for a good cause.

We work with the Cleveland Food Bank because the work they do for the community is without question.

But I’m not an artist and I want to help? What can I do?

  • Send this email to a friend who is an artist and let them know about the art show.
  • Attend the art show and throw some money down for tickets. You may win a one of a kind piece of artwork while helping others.
  • Drop off food items at the shop at any time from now until December 24th, our food collections begins now!

We will be putting out new boxes of one dollar comics at the shop. All sales from these boxes will go to the food bank collection. I will restock these books all month with decent dollar stock. So you get a comic book, and four meals are created. Everybody wins. It’s awesome to see parents bringing their kids in all month to pick out books and explain to them how they’re helping the community by shopping.

Thanks everyone! We only set the stage. This works because everyone does a little bit which adds up to a greater whole, which is what the holiday season is all about!
