Holiday Party / Art Show / Fundraiser at CNJComics
It’s time for our annual Holiday Party / Art Show / Sale / Fundraiser to benefit the Cleveland Food Bank!
On Saturday December 16th from 10am to 7pm we host an art show featuring local artists doing custom covers to benefit the Cleveland Food Bank. These covers can be won in a basket raffle system where one food item or one dollar gets you one ticket. You get to pick where your tickets go so you can win a cover you really like! This years theme is “The Holiday Season” so expect covers celebrating Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, and maybe even Wookiee Life Day.
We then shut down the store for an hour at 7pm only to reopen at 8pm for our Annual Holiday Customer Appreciation Party! The party last till around 11pm and features snacks and beverages, and holiday cheer! Winners of the basket raffle are drawn promptly at 10:30pm, and if you win you can take your piece of artwork home with you!
You can check out some of the previous art galleries here:
All the money collected during the art show will go to the Cleveland Food Bank, who have the uncanny ability to turn one dollar into four full meals for those in need during the holidays.
THE DAY:
In addition to being able to check out all the artwork early, we’ll also be running a massive store wide sale. These discounts will continue into the party as well.
(Yes, you can check out the covers and put your tickets in all day long, and it’s becoming a popular way of circumventing the crowd at night.)
- 50% off ALL Back Issues
- 20% of ALL Graphic Novels
- 20% of ALL Action Figures, Statues and Pop Funs.
- 10% off EVERYTHING ELSE in the shop.
We also have local artist Erin Schechtman Caruso from Super Group Hugs creating a custom print for us modernizing the classic Superman Americana artwork from 1949/1950’s. This image was recently rediscovered and conveys a perfect message from the past that is relevant today.
This poster will be FREE with any DC purchase and will be available all day as well as (hopefully) through the holiday shopping season. (As with previous prints, if you would like a second copy, please throw $5 in the Food Bank Fund. You just helped created 20 more meals!)
(The art from this project will be in next week’s email)
We will also be giving away a free Warrior’s Three – Dog Day Afternoon Hardcover with any purchase while supplies last. (we have over 200.) This book was written by Fables’ author Bill Willingham and features the warriors from the Thor movies. It also includes a classic Hulk reprint detailing his first visit to Asgard, which is pretty relevant after Thor Ragnarok.
THE PARTY:
All are welcome to our Holiday Party, which runs from 8pm to 11pm. Our first gift to you is this coupon good for 50% off any one item in the shop! Please print it out or show us this image on your smart phone when you check out.
Coupons MUST be used at the party between 8pm and 11pm. (Sorry, no exceptions.) Limit one per person.
We love to use local vendors at our events, so we’ll have desserts from Fear’s Confections as well as the Burning River Baking Company.
That fat lump of cat Winston has been dutifully working on this year’s craft beer “Winston’s Winter Warner” which will be available till it runs out.
We’ll also have beer from Great Lakes, Platform, Working Class Brewery and Saucy Brew Works. We will also have non Alcoholic options. (For the record, our holiday party is an all ages affair.) While refreshments are absolutely free, our bartender Macklin works solely on tips, so please do the right thing citizen.
If you’ve been missing Carol, she will be making an appearance in her full Mrs. Claus regalia, escorted by our own creepy Santa Rick. We’ll have some cool photo op areas set up around the shop so be sure to charge your phone. It’s also worth noting that wearing stupid holiday clothes makes everything more fun.
We’ve set the stage, and on Saturday we will fill it with some of the best people imaginable, our customers. It’s in everyone’s nature to want to do something for those in need during the holidays, and we’ve created a way to make it as fun as possible. Last year we collected enough money to help the Cleveland Food Bank to create over 10,000 meals, as well as collecting over 600 food items. Help those in need and join our comic shop family as we celebrate the holiday season at the shop!
If you can’t wait to help out, we’ll be collecting food items from now until December 24th. We will also be donating all the money from the sale of our dollar books to the Food Bank fund. We have three boxes of brand new dollar stock just so you have some cool stuff to pick through, which will be restocked daily through the holidays. (So for every book you buy, you’re also creating four full meals!
Look for updated event info next week!
