Featured New Releases for 5-30-2018

It’s a great week at the shop, with even more cool stuff looming on the horizon!

Here’s the featured new releases for May 30th, 2018!

HERE COMES SPIDER-MAN

The big one this week is Amazing Spider-Man #800, with Peter’s final showdown with the Red Goblin and the (near) end of Dan Slott’s run on this title.

This giant $9.99 issue has a slew of variants, though we’re really excited about the story inside. Starting at #794, this story has slowly built up into a much anticipated showdown. The Red Goblin has stated that if Peter ever shows his face as Spider-Man again he will kill everyone he loves, and everyone they know, etc. (I guess as far as he can figure it out.) It’s all made for good comic books though. 🙂

We have sold out of all our variant sets. We have sold sold out of all of the 1:100 and 1:200 variants. (Through preorder.)

Get to the shop early Wednesday for a chance to pick from the variants that are left, or be content with the standard yet really awesome Alex Ross cover. (pictured above.)

Anyway, enjoy the book, and if you’re late to the party we have reprints of #794 -#799 at the shop. This book is going on till issue #801, so be sure to look out for that as well.

DC RELEASES

It’s a fifth Wednesday of a month, which doesn’t mean much for Marvel, but it does for DC, who sticks to a pretty strict schedule. A fifth Wednesday to them is a hodgepodge of cool stuff and no ‘regular’ monthly books.

For example! We’re got another set of DC / Hanna Barbera one shots, and these things are typically pretty amusing. Titles include:

  • Aquaman / Jabberjaw Special #1
  • Flash / Speed Buggy Special #1
  • Super Sons / Dynomutt Special #1
  • and the Black Lightning / Hong Kong Phooey Special #1 (which is like something out of my dreams)

The countdown to Batman and Catwoman’s wedding has begun, and the one shots begin this week with the Batman: Prelude to the Wedding – Robin Vs Ra’s Al Ghul #1.

Here’s a checklist leading up to the Wedding issue coming out on July 4th. We suggest you print it out and turn it in at the shop, even if you only want the 50th wedding issue. I’m going to suggest adding the Catwoman #1 by Joelle Jones as well. She’s cool, her artwork is killing it, and they’re letting her write this book as well. The one shots leading up to the wedding are really just for fans who want something extra.

This week there’s also a new issue of Doomsday Clock, the one they’ve been hyping with the Joker cover.

The news that this book was going bi monthly was a bummer, but the previous issue detailing the new Rorschach’s origin was great. Like really great. Mothman forever, man.

This week is also the debut of Brian Michael Bendis’ weekly Superman: Man of Steel six issue mini series.

Pretty exciting considering both Brian and Superman hail from Cleveland! As this is a weekly book and hard to track orders on, please add to your file of you want it. We are likely to sell out of the next couple issues. (Don’t have a file? Ask at the counter. Having five books a month held gets you 10% off ALL your new comic purchases!)

WHERE WE LIVE

This week Image Comics has rounded up a truly all star line up of creators for the “Where We Live: A Benefit for the Survivors in Las Vegas.”

Retailing for $19.99, here’s the stock description: “The book will include a variety of perspectives with key themes exploring gun violence, common sense gun control, value of a compassionate society, mental health stigmatization, aftermath of tragedy and how individuals & communities persevere and an appreciation of Las Vegas as a vibrant community. 100% of the proceeds for the WHERE WE LIVE anthology will be donated to Route 91 Strong, a non-profit organization.”

Snoop around online to see all the people who contributed and you’ll be amazed at what they put together here.

YOUNGSTOWN COMIC CON

Finally a shout out to Youngstown Comic Con (nee’ All American) coming on July 7th and 8thIn addition to another chance to see Jim Steranko! you’ve also got a Secret Wars reunion here, with Jim Shooter, Mike Zeck, and John Beatty. John Shearer is going to flip as Secret War is a Top-Five book for him. I’ve personally never met Jim Shooter and that’s pretty exciting to me.

We will have a humble booth at the show.

That’s it! I hope everyone enjoyed the weekend, let’s get these kids out of school so we can all enjoy the summer!
