Featured New Releases for 5-26-2021 at CNJComics

Fun is the theme to this week’s new releases, with something in there for everyone!

Here’s the featured new releases coming out this Wednesday, May 26th, 2021!

DC COMICS

While it won’t be many copies, Batman Fortnite #2 second print marks the first time this title has hit the new comic table, we’ve covered all the preorders!

Expect reprints of the other issues to be coming in over the next few weeks. (the dates keep getting changed.)

Issue #4 1st prints will be out next week on 6-2, issue #1 3rd prints are due on 6-9, and issue #3 2nd prints are out on 6-23. Anyone who had a preorder should have it filled on these dates.

The Milestone Universe Returns in a #0 one shot that will lead into three new series.

A protest goes bad and a new generation of heroes in reborn. Written by Reginald Hudlin, who reinvented Black Panther back in the day. Milestone books are by all black creators as well!

One of my favorite reads of the year has been “The Other History of the DC Universe”, and while more prose than comic book, it’s a very intelligent look at the DCU from characters that have been marginalized.

This fourth and final issue looks at Renee Montoya, and deals with issue of gender, race and sexuality. John Ridley really learned his DC history for this series and it’s made me go back and reread old stories in a new light.

I didn’t order enough Stargirl Spring Break Specials. Somehow I didn’t notice it’s written by Geoff Johns, and as you would expect it’s super fun.

The show was a big hit in our house, and this is a great companion to it. The return of the Seven Soldiers of Victory!

Start reading Nightwing by Tom Taylor right now! Second prints of #79 are out this week and yes, it’s super fun too!

INDIE COMICS

This week’s indie book of the week is Blue Flame, by Christopher Cantwell, who has written some really great stuff for Marvel lately like Doctor Doom and Iron Man.

“THE BLUE FLAME is a cosmic hero. The Blue Flame is a DIY vigilante that fights crime on the streets of Milwaukee. The Blue Flame is a blue collar HVAC repairman named SAM BRAUSAM. In the wake of a horrific tragedy, the boundaries of the Blue Flame’s identity blur even further. Now, before a universal trial, the Blue Flame must prove that humanity is worth saving. But in order to do that, Sam Brausam has to save himself. Can he?:

We all read the promo copy and we loved it.

You know how a watched pot never boils? Well it boiled. TMNT Last Ronin #3 is finally out.

Looks a little Casey Jones-ish!

Donny Cates’ Comic Book about reading comic books is our best selling indie book right now. Find out why in the first graphic novel.

Something Is Killing the Children is another great indie that lives up to it’s hype. This issue starts a new storyline revealing the origin of the lead character Erica Slaughter.

MARVEL COMICS

It’s the final issue of Ta-Nehisi Coates four year run on Black Panther, and even if you haven’t been following along it’s a climax you can’t miss. Lots of covers too!

Lastly, please remember this is the last week for mandatory health measures, so please stick with us for one more week! (I even went to Target without a mask for the first time and it was super weird seeing everyone’s faces while I shopped. Yikes.) We acknowledge it will be a bizarre transition back but we will be lifting all CoVid protocols on Wednesday June 2nd as per the Govenor of Ohio. You are still very welcome to wear masks after that if you want to. I will not be. It’s time. Thanks to everyone for helping us get to this point!
