David Michelinie Signing and “Not-At-Comicon” Sale at CNJComics
Hey everyone, John D here! It’s almost time for our yearly “Not-At-Comicon” Sale, and this year we have a special treat! Writer David Michelinie will be joining us on Saturday for a signing!
“Not-At-Comicon” is our biggest sale of the year, running from Thursday, July 20th to Sunday, July 23rd!
It has two major discounts, 50% off all back issues (including the wall) and 10% off everything else in the shop. (Yes, everything!)
We also fill the foyer with dollar stock, so get ready to do some digging. All books in the foyer are $1.00 each!
(It’s worth noting that there will be no “Late-Nite Comics” this month. The sale takes its place.)
As stated above, the big news is that we will have a guest this year, Bronze Age Legend David Michelinie! David is the creator of Venom, Carnage, Taskmaster, Scott Lang’s Ant-Man, and a lot more! His runs on Avengers, Amazing Spider-Man, and Iron Man are epic, and he’s written plenty of stories that would become key issues to get signed. We’ll just point you to his Wikipedia page to give you some ideas.
The great news is that your first five signatures are free! If you would like more beyond that you’ll have to get back into that back of the line and it will cost $10 total for five more signatures. You can do that up to three times. The great news is that all of that money collected will be going to the Purring Pals Cat Rescue Group in David’s home state of Delaware! So basically, you can get twenty signatures for a $30 donation to a cat charity, which is some pretty positive Karma all around. (and really on brand for us as well.) Let’s just say that Winston approves. We have set up this system to make it easy to get those five signatures for your personal collection and keep the line moving, while also giving investors an opportunity to get a few more. David is against charging for his signatures but sees the value in them and would like to use that value to help cats. Again, sounds pretty fair to us.
Our VIP event on July 21st is sold out, and congrats to all who are attending. If you’d like to tune into the Q and A between myself and Micheline we’ll have it up live on Facebook starting around 6:30 that evening. (It will be posted after as well.) A great way to get ready to meet David on the 22nd. (side note, we have donated all the money collected for the VIP event to the Purring Pals Cat Rescue. It was the right thing to do and Winston is always watching…)
We’re also got a few more announcements to make! We’ll be set up at NEOCON this year on July 30th for the first time! Stop by our table and say hi!
We’ve also got a handful of guests that will be joining us before year’s end! More details on specific times to come but here are some dates to put on your calendar!
Phillip Kennedy Johnson will be in the shop for a signing on September 23rd! His new Hulk #1 just came out and is a shop favorite!
Mark Waid will be joining us the evening of Friday, October 13th for a signing, and will then be challenging the staff to a trivia contest everyone can watch. (Like all of us against him) Waid’s body of work is off the charts and it’s an honor to have him in the shop, let alone having him shred us with his knowledge base.
Sina Grace has a new Superman Original Graphic Novel coming out, Superman: The Harvests of Youth, and he’ll be in the shop signing the evening of October 20th. Sina’s been in the shop before and even kept signing for us during a blackout!
Lastly, Sarah Kuhn will be in the shop on October 27th, signing her new OGN (which is avaible in shop now actually) Girl Taking Over: A Lois Lane Story. We gave out a preview comic of her book for Free Comic Book Day this year!
These appearances have all been made possible through an amazing partnership with the Cleveland Public Library, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and the Cleveland Museum of Art, as well as the friendship of Valentino Zullo, who truly is a city treasure. It’s Superman’s 85th Anniversary this year and we’re a part of the celebration!
