MARVEL COMICS
Iron Man is back in writer/journalist Spencer Ackerman and artist Julius Ohta’s new series, and it’s the brutal beginning of the Stark-Roxxon War! Tony loses his armor, his company, and almost his life. And that’s just the first issue! Roxxon and AIM are teaming up to take over Stark Unlimited. They’ve prepared for the old Tony Stark, but Tony’s a lot angrier than he used to be. AIM and Roxxon aren’t prepared for Stark to go to war. Get ready for Iron Man to be put “through the absolute wringer during this run – tactically, emotionally, and morally.”
Now’s your chance to pick up the first appearance of Deadpool! In 3-D! And it comes with the 3-D glasses!
DC C0MICS
Get ready for me to talk about another Wonder Woman book ALL THE TIME! The second of DC’s new Absolute titles is Absolute Wonder Woman by Kelly Thompson and Hayden Sherman. Who would Wonder Woman be if she wasn’t raised on an island paradise? Without the sisterhood of Amazons? What if she was raised in Hell? What makes Wonder Woman, Wonder Woman? Baby Diana has been taken from the Amazons by Zeus as punishment. Circe has been alone on the Wild Isle of Hell. Now she is tasked as Diana’s warden by Apollo, and the word Amazon is banned. This is a wonderful alternate origin story, and like Absolute Batman, I had to read it again and it’s just as good the second time. Plus, there’s a beautiful skeletal Pegasus! Go All In and make sure it’s on your pull list!
Two terrifying tales featuring the Deadly Dollhouse and a woeful Wonder Woman! DC Horror Presents a new anthology collection of gruesome tales set in the DCU! The first of the four issues starts with the David Dasmalchian and Leah Kilpatrick written, with art by Cat Staggs, “Love You to Pieces” starring Dollhouse, her beau Max, and daddy Dollmaker! Then, something wicked is loose on Themyscira, leaving death each night of the full moon! The blood trail leads Diana right to her mother’s grave in The Boulet Brothers and Butch Mapa’s undead nightmare! No glamour in this one, but plenty of horror and filth for you Dragula fans!
“The world ended as it once began… in a great and total darkness.” The world has descended into darkness. The heroes are gone. Evil has prevailed. What is left of humanity struggles to survive in the Forgotten Lands. Solomon Grundy’s army of the undead grows larger each long night. But there is still a tiny light of hope. There is a legend of The Green Lantern, one who wields the mystical green flame that could return light to a darkened world. No one has seen her in years, no one knows where she may be, but in Lantern’s Light, the story grows and the townspeople ignite their own lanterns so that she will see the flames and know she is not alone. This seven-issue series brings a little horror to the Elseworlds, from writer Tate Brombal and artist Werther Dell’Edera.
SMALL PRESS COMICS
The second of Image’s Horizon Experiment one-shots, The Sacred Damned, from writer Sabir Pirzada and artist Michael Walsh introduces a new type of exorcist. Inayah Jibril is a Muslim John Constantine-type, and having experienced Djinn firsthand, she now helps those possessed by the supernatural creatures. Football star Kyle has been sleep eating. And eating. And eating. This reverse Thinner curse is destroying his life, and Inayah may be the only one who can rid him of this evil. This is a great introduction to this character and the folklore surrounding her, and I’d love to see more of this story.
Five short stories from writer Joe Pruett presenting the “Voices in My Head”, with art from Andrew Robinson, Phil Hester, Juan Doe, Michael Gaydos, and Bil Ruth. “The Peculiar Courtship of Miss Penelope Pembroke” sees Miss Pembroke finally living the life she deserves. “Four” extraordinary children are brought together, but for what purpose? A young man thinks “Outside the Box” in a spooky park. “The Gears of Life” are turning in a take on the Pinocchio tale. Finally, “Killroy is Here” with the very first appearance of Pruett’s Kilroy presented in color for the first time. A great one-shot anthology, with a range of stories and art styles, perfect for an autumn evening read.
