MARVEL COMICS

It’s time to crack open the Crypt of Shadows for Marvel’s annual Halloween one-shot! Three thrilling tales of magic, monsters, and mayhem! All hosted by Agatha Harkness! (Are you watching Agatha All Along? We love it, and it’s been the perfect weekly watch for the season!) “Bad Reception” is Agatha’s wraparound story from writer Steve Orlando and artist Claire Roe, as she tunes in to enjoy some misfortunes! Scarlet Witch and Vision’s Halloween plans are interrupted by the Last Door in Chris Condon and Djibril Morissette-Phan’s “Do Androids Dream in the Witch House?” Man-Thing is bitten by a mosquito, setting off a chain of events that brings Namor to the surface to stem “The Green Tide”, by Benjamin Percy and Raffaele Ienco. Last, but not least, Werewolf by Night just wants to get his jazz records before he wolfs out, but Kraven the Hunter disrupts his plans. When Blade shows up, it’s a three-way brawl in “Monster Games” written by Jason Loo with art by Carlos Magno.

Writer and artist Declan Shalvey’s new Mystique series is here to remind the world exactly why it should hate and fear her! Returning to her roots as a villain, the shape-shifting terrorist is out to find a rumored device called Protozoa. And she doesn’t care who she has to kill to get what she wants. How do you track a target that can be anyone? That’s the question plaguing Nick Fury after his father gives him a file containing intel on Mystique, pulling him into a web of lies and espionage. A solid spy story that Shalvey says is “an attempt to bring back what made Mystique so compelling from the start. What you think you know about her isn’t to be counted on anymore. All bets are off.”

DC COMICS

“Even a man who is pure in heart, and says his prayers by night, may become a wolf when the wolfbane blooms, and the moon is full and bright.” Beware the full moon in this gory Gotham horror story from writer Rodney Barnes and artist Stevan Subic! Escaping from a lab and leaving a bloody trail of bodies, there’s a werewolf so powerful that even Batman’s extensive gadgetry cannot stop it. His resilience alone won’t be enough, and even magical allies warn Bruce that he may not walk away unscathed. It’s a horrific tale of pain and redemption. Featuring glow-in-the-dark main covers! This Black Label book is well worth it!

Mark Waid and Chris Samnee reunite to bring us a story set in the first year of the dynamic duo, Batman and Robin! Bruce Wayne is adjusting to the realities of raising Dick Grayson while teaching him to become a crime fighter. Keeping his young ward safe proves to be a bit more difficult than Batman expected, as Robin leaps headfirst into his sidekick role, and a mysterious new crime boss starts making moves in Gotham. The General is disrupting and destroying other mobs, but what is his connection to Two-Face? Can Batman and Robin find the answers they need to stop the General’s takeover and manage both sides of their relationship?

Now that Absolute Power is over, it’s time to jump back into the main Wonder Woman story, and this one is a doozy! Steve Trevor is called to meet with the Sovereign and the events that follow lead to the birth of Trinity!

And speaking of great Wonder Woman, be sure to add Absolute Wonder Woman to your pull list. I loved the first issue, and I hope you all do too.

SMALL PRESS COMICS

One of our favorite slasher comics is back! I put the first trade paperback out so you could prep for the new series, and we sold out! We’ll have more in next week, so let us know if you need a copy. It’s time to visit another gated community for slashers, where they live when they’re not out killing! After monster hunter Connor Hayes tore through site A, the remaining killers have moved over to site B. But they’ve brought Connor with them?! This doesn’t seem like it will turn out well… There’s a new set of horror icons too! Meet The Coven, Marmot, Beastlord, Vilmos the Dream Master, The Holiday Killer, and Mr. Wrinkly! And Baphomutt had puppies! Kyle Starks and Piotr Kowalski once again play with familiar horror movie killers and tropes for a fun horror comedy mashup!

Want some political horror for this election season? With demonic possession? Writer Hannah Rose May and artist Vanesa Del Rey’s four-issue mini-series are for you! Elected as the first woman President of the United States, Kelly Doyle has to deal with boiling political tension, attacks on military personnel, and a historic blizzard during her first 100 days in office. Her two teenage children are thrust into the social media spotlight at their new Catholic school. Doyle is trying to prevent World War III, while her daughter, Mara, is just trying to survive being an outcast. That’s not all she’ll have to survive, as something is lurking in the shadows, and the White House is about to become a demonic battleground. If you enjoyed the last White House-set season of Chucky, but wanted it to be way darker, or if you’re a fan of The Omen: The Final Conflict, then you’ll probably enjoy this first issue.
