Andrea’s Pre-Party Picks for 12.18.2024

We’re counting down to Christmas, Comic Shop Friends! We’re counting down to our Holiday events too!

The art show is being put together as I write this, and starting Wednesday the 18th, you’ll be able to stop in to check it all out! And start filling those bags with your raffle tickets! We beat our record number of submissions this year, with over 150 covers! We have so many we’ll have two binders full of covers, along with the display wall, full of amazing art, so you’d better check those out too!

Extra thanks to Mark Overlow and his art students at Ashland County West Holmes Career Center, https://www.acwhcc.org/ They submitted an excellent batch of covers this year!

Like every year, we do a basket raffle for the covers, which means each cover is labeled with a number and has a corresponding bag with that number. You throw your tickets in the bags for the covers you’d like to try to win, and we pull the winners at the Holiday Party on the 21st. (You do not need to be present to win.) Tickets are $1 each, or $5 for six tickets, and that’s for every increment of five, so $10 gets you 12 tickets, etc.

We will be posting a gallery on Facebook with all the covers on the evening of Friday the 20th, and if you’re not able to make it in person, we will be taking call in credit card payments for the raffle on Saturday the 21st from 12pm to 6pm. Please let us know the numbers of the covers you’d like, or if you just want to donate and don’t have a preference, we can spread out your tickets in the bags.

With the record number of covers this year, we should be on track to beat last year’s record donation to the Cleveland Food Bank! This happens because of all of you, so please donate to help our local community. The Cleveland Food Bank is able to turn one dollar into three meals, so each and every dollar you donate has an impact.

Huge thank you again to all of you who donated your time and art! Thank you in advance to all of you who donate to the raffle! As an extra incentive, there were a few artists who also donated their original art to be raffled off along with the cover!

Also running this Wednesday the 18th through Saturday the 21st, all back issues will be 50% off! Pick up some as a gift, or for yourself! Help us make room for more new back issues as we work through more collections!

Come check out the new oversized book shelves! Kevin did an amazing job building these, and they are packed with omnibuses! Have your eye on one? Then you’ll want to come out to our Holiday Party!

Saturday the 21st from 8pm to 11pm! It’s our annual Holiday Party! Our gift to you is 50% off any one item in the shop! Grab an omnibus! Pick up a statue! Add a key issue to your collection!

We’ll be closing the shop at 7pm that night to set up, and reopening for the party at 8pm. It’s always a fun time, and we’ll have refreshments, including a Winter Warmer we brewed especially for the event!

Thanks to Jeff Richie for the label artwork this year! Come early if you’d like one, because it will go quick! All drinks are free, but please tip our bartender, Macklin!

The shop will be open until 5pm on Christmas Eve, Tuesday the 24th, for your last-minute shopping. We will be closed on Christmas Day, Wednesday the 25th.

Lastly, a reminder that we greatly appreciate when you come in to clear out your files before the end of the year. It helps us with inventory, correct ordering, maintaining files, and getting unsold books back out for other customers to enjoy! And you probably have some great stuff in there to read! Don’t risk a closed file by letting your pull pile up!

DC COMICS

Following the DC All In Special (Which if you missed, we got more in this week!), Ram V and Evan Cagle reshape the mythology of the DCU! An old god has died! The New Gods are born! The reverberations of his passing are felt across the universe, setting forth the soldiers of an intergalactic army and awakening the latent powers of a mysterious child on Earth. Now, as Metron brings word of this cosmos-shattering prediction to the residents of New Genesis and Apokolips, both worlds are thrown into chaos and conflict. Also, following the DC All In Special, Christopher Cantwell and Sean Izaakse bring the Challengers of the Unknown to the Watchtower! Ace Morgan, June Robbins, Prof Haley, Red Ryan, and Rocky Davis must team with the Justice League to seal the rifts that threaten the galaxy.
