Andrea’s Freezing Picks for 04.09.2025
Hi there Comic Shop Friends!
The new Free Comic Book Day 2025 prints are in, and they are FREE with any purchase. This year’s poster is an homage to Superman #233 and the artwork of Neal Adams! We dropped Superman in the iconic Cleveland Arcade as our way of paying tribute to the new movie and Cleveland’s role in it. We can’t wait to see our city shine onscreen this summer! We’ve got a lot to give away so stop by the shop and pick one up. Designed by Jameson Campbell, Great Lakes Brewing Company’s Creative Manager.
Free Comic Book Day is Saturday, May 3rd, 10am to 7pm! John sent out his email with all the details (also on our website) so check that out. We’ll be using the same storefront as last year for the FCBD room, which is where you can pick out twelve free comics and shop from all the awesome local artists and vendors! It’s one of two days, Genghis Con being the other, where I don’t stick to a budget and buy whatever I like! Our local artists need our support more than ever, so please pick up something from them!
Bumblebee will be making another appearance here on FCBD from 10am to 1pm! Grab a pic with The Bee, and look for other cosplay groups in attendance!
We’ll also have 50% off all back issues, and we’ve been stocking up on great all-ages books, so you’ll be able to find something for everyone!
I had the date wrong in the last newsletter for Superman Day. It is Friday, April 18th! Stop by that day to pick up the three free titles:
Jimmy Olsen’s Supercyclopedia!
Superman For All Seasons #1!
All-Star Superman #1!
There will be some exclusives for the day as well, like the Action Comics #1 facsimile, and a couple hardcover collections.
Late Nite Comics is happening again on Thursday, the 17th! 8pm to midnight! 50% off back issues! Tons of dollar stock! And this time they’re only 50 cents each! Yes, only 50 cents each!
MARVEL COMICS
The Amazing Spider-Man is alive and thwapping! Joe Kelly and Pepe Larraz are putting Peter Parker through the wringer with… a job hunt?! It’s not going well, and it gets even worse when the only good prospect Peter has is interrupted by Rhino on a rampage. Something is wrong with Aleksei, and that’s just the start, as a major Spider-Man villain is secretly weaponizing other villains. In the backup story by Joe Kelly and John Romita Jr., find out what Goblin-free Norman Osborn is up to! This is Marvel’s big one this week!
DC COMICS
With their powers switched, Fire and Ice’s return to the Justice League is cut short, and they return to Smallville to regroup. Ice cannot control her new fire powers, and isn’t sure how to use them in a non-destructive way. Fire has more control over the ice crystals, but is mostly just using them to put out Ice’s fires. Feeling more like menaces than heroes, Fire has a plan, but her idea of a quick fix becomes complicated. Can the duo switch their powers back? Maybe when Hell freezes over! Written by Joanne Starer, with art by Stephen Byrne.
Speaking of freezing over… an ice-cold two-part story featuring art by Marcos Martin, with the introduction of the Absolute Universe’s Mr. Freeze! Scott Snyder nails it again, as he begins to reveal the connections between the Ark M experiment, a young scientist named Victor Fries, and Matches Malone. This one gets creepy, with a hint of body horror, and if you want to finally jump in, this is a great issue to start with.
SMALL PRESS COMICS
Mark Millar, with artist Per Berg, have a new three-issue mini-series, about a world overrun by vampires! The United States has fallen in one night. Vampires have killed almost every human, taking a select few that can help them achieve their master plan. When the vampire horde makes their way to Vatican City, a Swiss Guard recruit may be the only one standing between the tourists trapped behind the city walls, and the millions of vampires outside. The suck heads will wait forever, but how long can the humans hold out?
