New Comic Releases for the week of 9-17-2014

Greetings! Here’s the featured new releases for the week of September 17th, 2014.

With excitement building about the new female Thor, we first have to learn what happened to the old one.

Thor_25Thor #25 will be a double sized issue featuring an amazing artist line up and written by Jason Aaron. What did Nick Fury say to Thor in Original Sin that made him not worthy?

There’s some cool variants too, like Bisley, Guera and Manara! (oh no, not Manara!)

Marvel’s also hedging there bets with Avengers #35.

Avenegrs_35Marvel is over shipping this extra sized issue because it’s supposed to be important but they’re not telling us why. This has only happened twice before, so keep your eyes out for this book. It’s the first part of Time Runs Out too.

The first issue of Edge Of Spider-Verse sold out, but issue #2 is the one people are asking about.

Edge_Of_Spider-Verse_2This stand alone story will feature a world where Gwen Stacy became “Spider-Man”. This new character looks to play an important part in Spider-Verse too.

DC’s in their third week of 3D Covers, and it seems like they’ve got a good system in place this year to make sure everyone gets what they want.

Batman_Superman_Future's_End_1This week’s books include:

  • Batman and Robin Future’s End #1
  • Batman Superman Future’s End #1
  • Batwoman Future’s End #1
  • Green Lantern New Guardians Future’s End #1
  • Justice League Future’s End #1
  • Red Hood and the Outlaws Future’s End #1
  • Supergirl Future’s End #1
  • Superman Wonder Woman Future’s End #1
  • Teen Titans Future’s End #1
  • Trinity Of Sin Pandora Future’s End #1
  • Wonder Woman Future’s End #1

This is also the week that Grant Morrison’s first Multiversity mini series kicks off, with the Society Of Super Heroes #1

Mutlivercity_Superheroes_1This one is set on Earth 20, which has a post modern pulp feel to it.

Getting ready for the Gotham tv series on September 22nd? Watch a preview here.

DC is releasing a $1.00 copy of the first issue of Gotham Central this week to get you ready.

Gotham-Central-Special-EditionGotham Central is an old series by Greg Rucka and Ed Brubaker, they split the writing chores between the day and night shift. It’s collected in four graphic novels and gets our highest recommendation. Great crime noir stuff with just the right amount of super hero in it. Try this first issue to see what you think.

George Perez is back in Sirens #1 from Boom Comics!

Gerorge_Perez_SirensAs an intergalactic force enslaves planets across the galaxy, the legendary team known only as the Sirens must reunite to save the galaxy-but is that even possible when the Sirens themselves don’t even remember who they are? And the rest of the universe only remembers them as…villains?

Perez is a classic and we’re glad he’s back in the mix.

Another surprise indie is the Leaving Megalopolis Original Hardcover from Dark Horse and Gail Simone!

Leaving_Megapolis_GNWhen the caped heroes of the world’s safest city inexplicably turn into homicidal maniacs, no one is safe. The only rational thing to do is to get the hell out of town. If only it were that easy. A small group of terrified survivors make a desperate run for the city limits, chased by unspeakable evil!

This was a post Secret Six Kickstart project that is finally seeing print!

That’s it for the comics this week, but we’ve got one more thing going on. As anyone who attended our Batman Day showing of Legends of the Knight knows, the DVD didn’t work and it was a bit embarrassing. (turns out it was a combo of dicey DVD and older DVD player.) But things happen, and we move on, however…

Batman_Doc…to square up their end of it, director Brett Culp has given us four lithographs of the above art along with one copy of the DVD to use as raffle prizes. We’re also going to be throwing a few Batman graphic novels into the mix to spice up the prizes.

So when you stop in the shop this week, be sure to fill out a raffle slip! We’ll pick the winners after store close on Sunday, September 21st.

Thanks goes to Brett for being a really stand up guy and making this happen. We’re proud to be associated with him and this amazing piece of work. Here’s more information on this amazing documentary.  #wearebatman

That’s it for this week!  We’ll see you soon at the comic shop!
