New Comic Releases for the week of 10-1-2014
Okay, it’s time for one of those truly exciting weeks that covers all the bases while also having near MARVEL DOMINATION! New titles! Key issues! Sweet Variants! Indie Collections! Let’s get going!
Here are the featured new releases for the week for Wednesday, October 1st, 2014.
It’s here! With everything Marvel’s got going on in October they’ve stated that this is their biggest winner pre-order wise. Thor #1!
Find out all about the new female Thor as Jason Aaron takes the title in a whole new direction. Lots of variants too, including one by Saga’s Fiona Staples! (It’s cool too know that she approves of the book.) We should have enough copies of this book to make it through the weekend!
As if that wasn’t enough, Captain America #25 gives us an all new Captain America!
It’s pretty common knowledge who it is, but just in case we’ll keep it quiet. Fans of Captain America: The Winter Soldier should be excited. Again, sweet variants, including one of the first Anti Bullying covers. (A big announcement about this next week!)
Keep your eyes open for the first issue of Bucky Barnes Winter Soldier #1, also this week.
After some delay, The Death Of Wolverine #3 comes out this week too!
Living up to the hype, selling great, and by looking at this cover you can see it gets back to Wolverine’s roots with an appearance by Kitty Pryde.
The Guardians of the Galaxy get back to their roots with Guardians 3000 #1.
Learn about the original Guardians by the guy that reinvented them, Dan Abnett!. With the movie doing so well it goes to figure that these guys will pop up in the cinematic universe sooner or later. Do your homework now! Hey! Is that Yondu?
Marvel got a really cool variant theme this month too, with the Deadpool cover bomb variants.
They’ll be hard to get, but you can at least enjoy the images. Deadpool pops into key Marvel covers throughout October! Check some more of them out here!
DC’s cover priced variants this month are monster variants, like this week’s Action Comics #35.
<insert action comics #35>You can’t go wrong with Neal Adams and Zombies! Plus this issue is a Doomed epilogue too.
DC’s also has a few new #1’s, including Gotham Academy #1
Written by indie fav Becky Cloonan. We’re supposed to get lots of guest at the Academy too, like that weirdo Bruce Wayne. I’m actually secretly looking forward to this. The new Lobo #1 comes out this week too.
Green Lantern starts a new story arc, with Green Lantern New Gods Godhead #1.
This storyline pits the Corps verse the New Gods as Highfather tries to round up one of each of the rings to put in a cube to fight Darkseid. (which sounds suspiciously like Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet) This will be the first new 52 appearances of many of the New Gods and this issue has a giant fold out that made it original orders only. Part two is out this week also in Green Lantern #35.
DC Essentials featured book of the week is Batman Black Mirror #1 for only $1.00.
Batman The Black Mirror is where current writer Scott Snyder began on Batman pre New 52. It’s a modern classic and one of the most recommended Batman graphic novels in the shop. If you’ve never heard of it before throw your buck down and grab a copy.
Image has two introductory graphic novels this week priced at only $9.99 each, Southern Bastards by Jason Aaron and Nailbiter by Joshua Williamson.
Welcome to Craw County, Alabama, home of Boss BBQ, the state champion Runnin’ Rebs football team…and more bastards than you’ve ever seen. When you’re an angry old man like Earl Tubb, the only way to survive a place like this…is to carry a really big stick.
Jason Aaron also has Men Of War #1 coming out from Marvel’s adult Icon line this week.
“Where do serial killers come from?” and why has Buckaroo, Oregon given birth to sixteen of the most vile serial killers in the world? NSA Agent Nicholas Finch needs to solve that mystery in order to save his friend, and he’ll have to team up with the infamous Edward “Nailbiter” Warren to do it.
This edition collects issues #1-5 and issue #6 comes out this week too!
These books are just a small part of what is one of the biggest new comic weeks of the year! Stop in and we can guarantee you’ll find something new on the table!
