Spiderverse and new comic releases for the week of 11-5-2015

Spider-Verse is Here! After months and months of waiting (and some pretty fun set up issues) we can finally dive head first into the first part of Spider-Man next major storyline!

Amazing_Spider-Man_9Marvel’s pulled out one of it’s big guns to illustrate Amazing Spider-Man #9, OLIVIER COIPEL of Thor and House Of M Fame. Spider-verse originally came off as a bit hokey for a story. “Every Spider-Man Ever”. But we’ve seen the addition of Spider-Gwen, the return of Spider-Ham, and the Death of Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends during the lead up issues. Spider-Man stories all share a core set of values that’s distinctly theirs, and these stories reflected that. High expectations here.

The companion book to Amazing this week will be Spider-Verse Team Up #1.

Spider-Verse_Team_Up_1A three issue mini series with two Spider-Verse tales per book. This one has the aforementioned Spider-Ham and a story by legendary writer Roger Stern.

Avengers and X-Men AXIS moves into it’s second act “Inversion” with issue #4.

Avengers_X-Men_AXIS_4We’ll start to see the different players flipped on their moral axis this issue, and it’ll be a great set up for Superior Iron Man #1 next week.

DC’s themed variants this month are pretty cool. LEGO!

Detective_36_legoAll month we’ll have these cool variants at cover price. This week’s LEGO variants include Detective #36, Action #36, Green Lantern #36 and Grayson #4.

Image has a new #1 from a pretty popular guy, Kurt Busiek.

Tooth_and_Claw_1Only $2.99 and 48 pages, just like Kirkman’s Outcast #1. Busiek is known for work on Astro City and Marvels. It’s being billed as Game of Thrones meets Kamandi.

We’ve also got a couple important graphic novels coming out this week, starting with the Serenity Leaves on the Wind Hardcover.

Serenity_Leaves_On_The_Wind_HCAll six issues of Zak Whedon’s follow up to the movie collected together for $19.99. This story was pretty much enjoyed by everyone.

The Wake will finally be collected in Hardcover for only $24.99.

Wake_HCScott Snyder and Sean Murphy nailed it with this Eisner Nominated Horror Suspense Thriller. “When Marine Biologist Lee Archer is approached by the Department of Homeland Security for help with a new threat, she declines but quickly realizes they won’t take “no” for an answer. Soon she is plunging to the depths of the Arctic Circle to a secret, underwater oil rig filled with roughnecks and scientists on the brink of an incredible discovery. But when things go horribly wrong, this scientific safe haven will turn into a house of horrors at the bottom of the ocean!”

Finally, we’d like to give a shout out to Michael Savene and Akron Comicon this weekend.

Akron-ComiconI consider Akron Comicon to be the third bowl or porridge. Not to big, not to small, just right. A home grown convention that doesn’t make the mistake of trying to be everything to everyone, it’s simply and old school comic convention that has been growing successfully each year mostly due to a positive vibe and hard work of Michael. We’ll be there both days liquidating some inventory, so stop by and see us. (I’ll even be a judge in the costume contest and we’ll be providing participation prizes to all the kids who enter.)

That’s it for this week, thanks for tuning in and GO SPIDER-VERSE!
