New Comic Releases for the week of 1-6-2016
Welcome to a brand new year at CNJComics! We’ll be guiding you through the world of pop culture, while acting as a filter for the endless amount of product that comes out. But as always, like what you like! There is no right and wrong and we learn as much about people from what they don’t like as we do with what they enjoy. Welcome to 2016!
DEADPOOL
The Deadpool movie is a little over a month away, and Marvel is releasing a considerable amount of accessible product in the lead up.
Due out February 12th and I really like the new trailer, check it out here! (like you haven’t already! You’ll have to dig around online for the red band trailer.)
This week we’ve got Spider-Man Deadpool #1, a new ongoing title by the dream team of Joe Kelly and Ed McGuinness.
Joe Kelly is basically the guy who made Deadpool into the character we know today, breaking the fourth wall and interacting with the audience. McGuinness is known for his big action fight scenes. (Kelly wrote my favorite Deadpool story, the original issue #11, also featuring Spider-Man.)
Deadpool will also have a line of $1.00 True Believer books, reprinting great moments in his history. This week we’ve got a reprint of Deadpool’s first appearance in New Mutants #87, as well as another one of my favorite issues, Wolverine Origins #25. (with art by Preacher’s Steve Dillon, the complete story in Wolverine Origins #21-27 is a classic. 2nd best Deadpool story out there.)
Here’s an article about all the books to be reprinted.
Beginning to see a theme here? Deadpool also has his own adult coloring book this week, Color Your Own Deadpool.
$9.99 gets you 60 pages of line art to help you get your Zen on in the latest craze to hit the shelves.
We also got a new issue of the ongoing Deadpool series (#5) as well as a new series of Deadpool Minimates.
DC UNIVERSE
Not to be outdone by Marvel, DC has adult coloring book variants on a lot of their books through the month of January. This week we’ve got variants for Action #48 (pictured), Detective Comics #48, Green Arrow #48, and Green Lantern #48.
Please note these books will be cover priced and only the cover is color-able. (there was some confusion about that.)
No disrespect to Deadpool intended, but the best $1.00 you’ll spend this week is the DC Essentials New Frontier preview edition.
One of my favorite stories of all time (top five easy), Darwyn Cooke writes and draws a DC superhero story set at the dawn of the Silver Age. A great way to see how intelligent a superhero comic can be. If you like the book the entire series is collected into a $49.99 hardcover filled with supplemental material.
FINALS
One last book to mention that Marvel fans have been waiting for, the new ongoing A-Force by G Willow Wilson.
Wilson writes the uber-popular Ms. Marvel, and this is her new all female team book.
FREE BOOK OF THE WEEK
Heard about the super exclusive Marvel Hip Hop covers based on classic album covers? Well, we’ll be giving out this 16 page book for free with any purchase showcasing the best of the artwork from these impossible to qualify for variants!
We’ve got 250 copies to give away, so we’ll likely make it through the weekend.
Lastly, if you don’t follow us on Facebook, you should. We do an extended new release gallery, where you can comment and like images of new products coming out. Your input affects our orders!
