New Comic Releases for 1-13-2016

We’re back for week two of 2016. Lots of big titles are coming out, like All New All Different Avengers #3, Mighty Thor #3, All New X-Men #3 and Guardians of the Galaxy #4. However we find the fun is in the details, and this week has plenty of interesting smaller projects as well. Here’s the offbeat featured selections for January 13th, 2016.

DC UNIVERSE

Batman Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 was a bigger hit than we figured it would be and issue two is out this week.

Batman TMNT _2We’re hoping to get an initial clash between our heroes, while Shredder make an alliance with the Penguin. This is a six issue mini series.

A sleeper hit from DC is Max Landis’ Superman American Alien #3.

Superman American Alien _3Landis is a screen writer who had some success with Chronicle. (Also John Landis’s son, for you movie buffs out there.) You can start with any issue, as they are all stand alone stories set during Clark’s youth, each by a different artist.

Here’s a short film Landis made about the Death and Return of Superman in the 90’s.

BE WARNED: offensive language and Landis himself comes off as a bit of a jerk, but you’ll find yourself laughing at least a few times. His work on this book is very heartfelt and thought out though. Seven issue mini series, and again you can jump in anywhere.

DC’s about to have another hit on the television screen, with the debut of Lucifer on January 25th.

Lucifer _1Yup, it’s the Lucifer from Neil Gaiman’s Sandman, and this is a $1.00 preview issue of the old series to get you interested in the graphic novels. Here’s the trailer for the show.

INDEPENDENT TITLES

It’s the return of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, this time in the capable hands of BOOM Studios.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers _5The series starts off with this #0 issue and we’ve gotten a surprising amount of pre orders for it. Sure, we’ve got time for another short film. Here’s the super sweet unauthorized Power Ranger short film from a couple years back.

BE WARNED: (again) Adult language, violence, and brief nudity. (But still really fun stuff)

Walking Dead #150 is coming out, with multiple covers similar to the release of issue #100.

Walking Dead _150Employee review is in on this issue and it’s a hit. Rick gets betrayed. Here’s some material to get you excited about the show’s return on February 12th and the debut of Negan!

MARVEL AND MORE

The final issue of Secret Wars is here, so you can finally start reading all those Marvel titles you’ve been holding back on.

Secret Wars _9The story that Hickman’s been building too since he started writing Marvel Comics, Reed Richards verse Doctor Doom.

Finally, we’ve got a pretty hefty selection of new books in our 50% off graphic novel bins, including some Marvel Masterworks and Marvel Essentials. We’ve also gone out of our way to restock our action figure and Pop Fun’s after the holidays. New magnets and buttons are coming, along with a large selection of super hero playing cards. (to add to our ‘man’s ruin’ selection of pup glasses, shot glasses and bottle openers.) Our goal for 2016 is to carry the product lines we’re behind extensively.

Oh yeah, it’s never to early to start thinking about Free Comic Book Day
