Holiday Party / Art Show / Fundraiser / Sale at CNJComics

Here’s all the info on this years annual Holiday Party / Art Show / Sale / Fundraiser to benefit the Cleveland Food Bank!

On Saturday, December 22nd from 10 am to 7 pm we’ll be hosting an art show featuring local artists who created custom covers to benefit the Cleveland Food Bank. These covers can be won in a basket raffle system where one food item or one dollar gets you a ticket. You get to pick which cover your ticket goes to so you can win a cover you really like. This year’s party and art show theme is ‘Stan Lee” so expect a lot of really amazing heartfelt pieces.

Here are a few of the covers:

We will shut down the store at 7 pm only to reopen at 8 pm for our annual Holiday Customer Appreciation Party! The party lasts till around 11 pm and features snacks, beverages and the required holiday cheer. Winners of the basket raffle are drawn promptly at 10:30 pm. Winners need not be present but if you’re there you can take your artwork home with you.

All the money collected during the art show will go to the Cleveland Food Bank, who have the amazing ability to turn one dollar into four full meals for those in need during the holidays.

We will also be having a holiday sale from Thursday December 20th to Monday December 24th. (We thrive during this time period, when it’s to late to successfully order stuff through the mail.) This sale will obviously be in effect during the art show as well.

This sale includes:

  • 50% off all back issues
  • 20% off all graphic novels
  • 20% off all action figures, statues and pop funs.
  • 10% off everything else in the shop

Local artist Jeff Ritchie has created a custom print for us depicting my favorite cameo by Stan Lee. “I have so many more stories to tell…”

If the moonscape looks familiar, it should. It’s Cleveland. This 11 x 17 print will be free with any purchase during the holiday season starting…NOW!

This is our tribute to Stan that we’re sharing with you Cleveland!

As with previous prints, if you would like a second copy, please throw $5 into the Food Bank fund. You just helped to created 20 more meals!

The Party:

All are welcome to our holiday party which, as previously stated, runs from 8 pm to 11 pm on Saturday December 22nd. Our first party gift to you is this coupon good for 50% off any one item in the shop! Please print this image out or show it to us on your smartphone when you check out.

Coupons MUST be used at the party between 8 pm to 11 pm period. (sorry, no exceptions.) Limit one coupon per person.

We have also brewed two beers just for the party this year in celebration of Stan’s legacy. The “Excelsior Holiday Spice Ale” and the “The Man” Lager.

The Holiday Spice Ale comes out at about 5%ABV and mixes Centennial and Hallertau Hops with just the right amount of Cinnamon, Ginger and Nutmeg.

“The Man” Lager comes in at a drinkable 4.5% ABV with a crisp taste from the Perle and Tettnang hops.

These beers are free and go pretty quickly starting right at 8 pm. We’ll also have other beers as well as non alcoholic refreshments. (For the record, our holiday party is and will always be an all ages affair.) While refreshments are free, our bartender Macklin works solely on tips, so please do the right thing.

We will also be serving onomatopoeia chocolates by Fear’s Confections in Lakewood. Thanks Cassandra!

Yes, Carol will be at the party this year, though she is retiring her Mrs. Claus costume. Our regular Santa Rick is converting over to a Johhny LaRue schtick (It’s a John Candy SCTV thing) so I think that leaves me to suit up as Old Saint Nick this year. Look out Christmas! We always have cool photo ops around the shop so charge up that phone and wear your holiday finest. Fact: wearing stupid holiday clothing makes everything more fun.

This is our way of celebrating Stan Lee in the best way possible, by bringing our community together in a way that helps people in his name.  Over the last five years we were able to assist the Cleveland Food Bank in creating over 50,000 meals for those in need with YOUR help.

The chance to use Stan as a beacon of friendship and camaraderie is our tribute to him. He told stories and that brought people together. We will never forget that “With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility”. It’s all about living up to that ideal and making it mean something.

Happy Holidays Cleveland!
