Featured New Releases for 7-3-2019 at CNJComics
It’s a fun little week at the comic shop with some unusual new titles.
We’ll also be packing up some of the back issues and heading out to Youngstown for the Youngstown Comic Con this weekend! Another chance to see the amazing Jim Steranko as well as Jason Mewes!
I’ll be attending a Steranko dinner a bit like the one we hosted here for FCBD last year.
Anyway, here’s the featured New Releases coming out this Wednesday, July 3rd, 2019!
“Small” Press Titles
Robert Kirkman always said that Walking Dead would end when Rick died so, well, yeah… Walking Dead #193 comes out this week, as well as a reprint of #192 with a new memorial cover.
If you’re looking for a couple decent Image Comics to replace Walking Dead with, we’ve got new titles from Mark Millar and Jason Aaron this week!
Space Bandits is a five issue mini series from Mark Millar!
“Thena Khole and Cody Blue are among the universe’s most wanted felons. Each the leader of their own criminal ops, they run heists across the galaxies-hopping from ship to ship to fleece everyone inside. But when both women are betrayed by their crews, the bandits only have one thing on their minds: REVENGE.”
Jason Aaron’s new Image title is Sea of Stars!
“Being a space trucker sounds like a cool job, but in reality, it can be boring as hell. So when recently widowed Gil gets a long-haul gig across the universe, he figures it’s safe enough to bring his young son Kadyn along for the ride-that is, until their “big rig” gets bitten in half by a gigantic Space Leviathan! Now separated from his son-with a breached suit that’s venting oxygen at an alarming rate-Gil must defy the odds and stay alive long enough to rescue Kadyn.”
DC Titles
If you’ve been enjoying the new Doom Patrol tv show (it is really good) Gerard Way (who also writes Umbrella Academy) returns to the title with a new ongoing series Doom Patrol The Weight of the World.
Another good read should be Lois Lane #1 by Greg Rucka, who’s known for writing some really powerful female characters in series like Whiteout and Lazarus.
Even our mainstream recommendation is a little off base this week, Superman Up In The Sky #1 is the first of the Walmart books being made available to comic book shops. It only covers the new material and it’s stuff written by Tom King.
It’s the first of a 6 issue mini series, and expect more of these covering the Batman, Wonder Woman and Teen Titans Walmart books. (The Batman has a really great Batman/Green Arrow story by Brian Bendis) (Also, a little flip of the finger to DC for only making these stories available to us now.)
Marvel Titles
Also on the weird mainstream list is the new edition of the Silver Surfer Parable HC.
Not a week goes by (literally) that someone doesn’t ask for material by Moebius, well here’s his big mainstream work from 1988 with a slightly larger trim size. It’s written by Stan Lee too. (remember that scene from Crimson Tide where two sailors are arguing over who was the better Silver Surfer artist, Jack Kirby or Moebius? This is the story they were talking about.) Classic stuff and we’ll try to keep it on the shelf for as long as we can.
Not-at-Comicon and NEO-TACC
Here’s what you can expect at our yearly “Not-At-Comicon” Sale from July 18th to the 21st:
- 50% OFF BACK ISSUES
- 20% OFF STATUES, ACTION FIGURES AND POP FUNS
- 10% OFF EVERYTHING ELSE!

This is one of only two times each year that we get to bring our inventory out from our storage locker, so take advantage of it. Believe it or not, but we actually have all the Marvel and DC dollar stock in order this year. ALL OF THEM!
The sale culminates on Sunday with our second annual Swap Meet with NEO-TACC, and it will be even bigger than last year. We’ll have a few local artists out there as well as an area in the parking lot. Even if you don’t have a table you can bring stuff to sell or trade.
Let the summer of fun continue and we’ll see you soon at the shop!
