Halloween at CNJComics 10-31-2020
Here’s the details on what we’ll be doing for Halloween this year at the comic shop!
While there is no official “Halloween ComicFest” this year, we have managed to put something together on our own with FREE Comics, FREE Candy and FREE Paper Masks!
From 10am to 5pm on Saturday October 31st we’ll be opening up the foyer next to the shop for trick or treating. We’ll be letting one family/trick ot treating group in at a time to walk past three tables, one with candy, one with comics and one with the paper masks. We’ll have a hand sanitizer station outside the foyer, masks are required, and please maintain your six foot social distance from everyone else while waiting. If you’re sick, stay home! All staff members will have their tempertarure checked in the morning, and will regularly sanitize the area (and themselves). After that if you want to enter the shop you can exit the foyer and go in the main doors of the shop, where we will keep the occupancy rating at the regular 15 plus staff. If the shop is busy and you don’t want to wait, don’t sweat it. Just try to come back some time in the future if possible. (Photographing your group and posting on social media with #cnjcomics is a great way to say thank you for your treats!)
So what do we have? Each person in costume will get ten different reprints of classic Marvel Comics that outline the history of the Black Widow! People not in costume can pick three. (If you have to ask if you’re wearing a costume then you’re not wearing a costume.)
These book include reprints of:
Tales of Suspense #52 (and #53): The first appearance of the Black Widow from 1964!
Avengers #42: The first appearance of Red Guardian from 1967!
Amazing Spider-Man #86: the first appearance of the Widow’s all black jumpsuit by John Romita Sr from 1970!
Amazing Adventures #1 (and #2): The Widow’s first solo stories with art by John Buscema, also from 1970!
Daredevil #81: The first meeting of Daredevil and Widow from 1971!
Avengers #111: DD and Widow guest star in the Avengers from 1973!
Marvel Two In One #10: I don’t know why this is one of the books but I love MTIO! From 1975!
Champions #7: First appearance of the Russian super heroine Darkstar from 1976!
Avengers #196: First appearance of Taskmaster from 1980!!! (!!!)
Marvel Knights Black Widow #1: first appearance of Yelena Belova from 1999! (parents, this is the only book that has a teen plus rating)
There’s nothing we like more than loading people up with classic Marvel Comics Books.
Other than candy, everyone in costume will be able to pick two paper masks from the eight featured below!
Catwoman’s feature the art styles of Bruce Timm, Jim Aparo, Darwyn Cooke and Joelle Jones.
Joker’s feature the art styles of Bruce Timm, Frank Miller, Neal Adams and Greg Capullo.
These masks are actually really well made considering, and are super fun in social media photos. #cnjcomics !
Finally, because again we love comic book history, we bought up hundreds of old EC reprints from the 1950’s and we’ll be selling them for only $1.00 each all day!
Fun stuff like Tales From the Crypt, Weird Science, Shock Suspense Stories and more! Not for kids……well, maybe for kids. (kids from the 1950’s that is.)
Here’s a little history on EC Comics!
Our primary goal is to create a safe environment for trick or treaters all day long, so bear with us as we try to make that happen. If there are any comics left over we’ll continue to hand them our after 5pm, and on Sunday, inside of the shop. As always, come early for the best selection. I have alot of books that I plan to have all day but it’s impossible to predict how many we’ll need.
Have a safe Halloween and again please share any photographs with us!
